چکیده

Cervical cancer is the second most common female cancer in Thailand and worldwide (IARC, 2005; Ferlay et al., 2010). Persistence high risk HPV infection is known as a leading cause of cervical cancer (Schiffman and Kjaer, 2003; IARC, 2005). Most of the cervical cancer cases developed in the developing countries. Despite of the wide spreading of the disease, cervical cancer is one of the preventable cancers. Pap smear either conventional or liquid based methods have also been proved that can be used to decrease the incidence of cervical cancer. Pap smear helps physicians to detect precancerous lesions and treat before the lesions progress to cancer. Moreover, several methods have been used to detect precancerous lesions of the cervix such as VIA (visual inspection with acetic acid) and HPV DNA testing either physician taking or self-sampling method (WHO, 2006). These screening tests can reduced the incidence of cervical cancer nearly 80% in developed countries (WHO, 2006). Screening for cervical cancer by using HPV DNA testing can reduce the burden of HPV mediated carcinogenesis especially cervical cancer (Saumya et al., 2012). HPV DNA testing has been proven an effective and better method for cervical

Exploring the acceptability of human papillomavirus self-sampling among Muslim immigrant women

BACKGROUND With appropriate screening (ie, the Papanicolaou [Pap] test), cervical cancer is highly preventable, and high-income countries, including Canada, have observed significant decreases in cervical cancer mortality. However, certain subgroups, including immigrants from countries with large Muslim populations, experience disparities in cervical cancer screening. Little is known about the ...

Determinants of women’s likelihood of vaginal self-sampling for human papillomavirus to screen for cervical cancer in Taiwan: a cross-sectional study

BACKGROUND Many Taiwanese women (43.8%) did not participate in regular cervical screening in 2011. An alternative to cervical screening, self-sampling for human papillomavirus (HPV), has been available at no cost under Taiwan's National Health Insurance since 2010, but the extent and likelihood of HPV self-sampling were unknown. METHODS A cross-sectional study was performed to explore determi...

IN PRACTICE Comparison of non-invasive sampling methods for detection of HPV in rural African women

Background: The prevalence of cervical cancer is extremely high in low income countries, primarily because of a lack of cytological screening. The link between human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer has long been recognised, and it has been suggested that isolated HPV testing in women who do not participate in existing screening programmes may be used to identify women at higher risk of...
